Facts and Figures
Inspired by researchers pushing the boundaries of knowledge, we began publishing in 2004 with the launch of our first scientific journal. Our book publishing division was set up in 2005, and by 2006 we had published our first eight books. We have worked hard on upgrading our publishing processes, and our collection now includes over 1150 book titles comprising more than 21,500 reviewed research papers published to date.
InTech is becoming one of the biggest Open Access publishers of scientific books today.
+ 60 000 authors in the publication process
+ 1 150 books published to date
+ 21 500 chapters published to date
Fields Covered
We are an STM publisher of Open Access literature and we are constantly expanding the fields of research we cover. The main subject area covered by our publications is currently engineering, but we are widening our catalog with the aim of including new scholarly fields. In 2010 we initiated work on more than 250 books encompassing topics in the field of medicine.

Readership Metrics
The Open Access model makes possible a new method of measuring readership. Along with traditional impact factors, the number of downloads is becoming an important quantitative parameter that shows how free access increases readership, enabling publications to reach a larger potential audience. There is a correlation between the number of downloads and citation rates. The number of downloads and the increased number of readers has a positive impact on a paper citation count. A large number of downloads gives an indication that your publication has been well received by your peers across the globe.
At InTech, the one millionth download was recorded in 2010 and figures are showing a continued increase reaching at present more than 2.5 million downloads.
| total number of downloads | 4.5 million |
| most downloaded book | 23 507 |
| most downloaded chapter | 9 253 |
Our International Readers
Thanks to the Open Access model we allow free and unrestricted access to all the scientific research that we publish. In addition, we make possible high visibility to potential readers of our publications all over the world. The Internet and the Open Access model are helping disseminate scientific findings to the broadest possible audience.

The highlighted cities show where our readers come from. The vast majority of our readers come from Beijing, the European capital cities and Boston, the American melting pot of college students.
